Egypt is easy to travel and every destination is easily reachable by bus or train.
Some parts near Luxor are, however, only reacheable by convoy. If you do get around the convoy,
chances exist police will follow you during your trip.
Accomodation
Budget accomodation exists everywhere. There is almost no need to book ahead. Just go, compare some places and choose :-)
Tips
A lot of people will fly to Cairo and take the train to Luxor afterwards. Instead of going to the crowded Giza station,
you can go to the smaller "Ramses" station. There are almost no lengthy queues there and you can buy a ticket which is valid from
Giza station. It's not far from the Pyramids, so you can book your ticket when you make the "pyramid trip".
Trying to book a trainticket for the next day is virtually impossible, trains are almost always full. Take 2 days in account for getting a train.
How to get there?
Jetair ( http://www.jetairfly.be ) flies to Cairo or Luxor twice a week.
At the time writing (2006), it was probably the cheapest option to get there (less than 200 euro both ways).
Citizens of Belgium don't need to buy a visa in advance, you don't even need a travel passport. You can buy
a VISA in the airport in Egypt for around 17 euro.
