Tunisia

Location

How to get there?
  • Cheap flights from Belgium to Tunisia (160 EUR both ways) can be obtained with Jetair Fly. They fly to Djerba, Monastir, and Tunis. Also, if you want to visit Libya it would be a cheap option to fly to Djerba and take a louage to, for example Tripoli.

  • Documents
  • Citizens of Belgium need an international passport. When you are travelling organized with a group, a Belgian identity card is enough.

  • Transportation in the country
  • In the north, there is no problem. There are frequent trains and louages (minibusses which leave when there are 8 passengers).
  • In the south, there are mostly louages, though there is sometimes only sporadic transport to small places. You have to be prepared to wait quite a while or try to hitchhike (which happens frequently). Transportation is often less frequent in the afternoon, so leave early.
  • Other transportation, like taxi's, are not expensive but don't go long distance.
  • Organized tours, like 4x4's to go into the desert, are not very cheap: they will cost you +/- 40 TND (25 EUR) for half a day

  • Accomodation
Very easy. Most people will travel organized in Tunisia and stay in big hotels in, for example, Djerba. Therefor there will be almost always vacancies in small budget places all over the country.

    Costs
Tunisia is not an expensive country. Some examples:
